Local Entrance and Patio

Atmosphere

Fernanda: This is a loud place for sure.  Not so much that you have to yell but you definitely have to raise your voice.  The lights are bright.  There are TV screens, usually playing sports.  A good place for big or small groups.  There tend to be preppy guys/girls hanging out at the bad, and if you're a girl, it's likely you'll get a drunk dude who will try to flirt with you.  The patio is great in the summer.

Scott: Local toes the line between grungy and casual bar in a growing young neighbourhood.  It might not always feel like the cleanest place, but it doesn’t feel uncared-for.  On weekday nights, the place is largely empty and great for a casual hangout amongst a small group.  During peak hours, however, the bar is often packed, including the patio in summer.  This can create for some uncomfortably compressed walks.  It also seems to be a popular place to watch sporting events, although the televisions are only positioned well for some locations in the bar.

Pinche Beef Tacos

Fernanda: I think the service is all right.  It might be because they are always busy but I do feel like I'm being either rushed or not getting any service when I go.  In general it's good, but I do believe there's room for improvement.  (I'm not expecting 5-star service, but I'd like to get a refill of water whenever my glass is empty.)  There hasn't been an in-between in my experience.  The servers are only somewhat knowledgeable about the beer they carry.  The food is good bar food.  My go-to is always the spicy chicken wings but I would also recommend the burgers.  I don't come here often, but when I do, it's usually because I'm craving the chicken wings.

Scott: I once had a very friendly bartender.  Otherwise, the table service has generally been slow—and dare I say, reluctant?  When the place is busy, the slow service makes sense; but when it’s not, it’s very disappointing.  The food is good, in general.  I very much like the Pinche Beef Tacos (although Fernanda will regularly tell me that they’re not authentic Mexican tacos, and that one of the many translations of Pinche is a vulgar word…).  The Perogies are good, although you could get a box of store-bought perogies of only slightly lesser quality for less money.

Beer

Local Regular Drink Menu

Fernanda: The have both bottled and draught beer.  For the most part, their craft beer is on draught and the international or mainstream beers are in bottles (this list barely changes).  The draught beer changes every few day, possibly when the beer runs out.  The variety is small and the prices are average.

Scott: They rotate their taps on a fairly regular basis, making it a great place to return to every couple of weeks.  They also have a fairly solid selection of year-round beers that offers a variety of styles from several breweries.  They offer daily drink deals, often at very good value.  The standard basics are there, if you just want something light and simple.

Overall

A solid place to come to if you aren't in a rush and want to try a variety of Ontario Craft Beers.  It doesn't have the most selection, but due to the rotating taps, it's a place you can definitely keep coming back to.  There are better beer bars in the area, such as The Craft, so Local might be your better option if you're looking to watch a sporting event, or if you want to eat a meal with your drink.
